The MCP2551 is a high-speed CAN transceiver that serves as a CAN protocol controller and physical bus interface. It provides differential transceiver capability for the CAN protocol controller and fully complies with the ISO-11898 standard, including operation in 24V systems. Each node on the CAN network requires a device to convert digital signals from the CAN controller into bus-compatible signals. The device includes isolation buffers between the CAN controller and the CAN bus to protect against high-voltage spikes from external sources. Supports data rates up to 1 Mbps.
