Product Details A professional tracking force gauge designed for vinyl record enthusiasts interested in precise measurement of vertical tracking force (VTF). For accurate VTF measurement, the stylus tip must be positioned at the same vertical height as the record surface — referred to as “record level.” This gauge measures VTF approximately 2 mm to 3 mm above the turntable mat or platter surface — matching the typical height of a stylus tip resting on an LP record (LP thickness ranges from 1.9 mm to 2.9 mm). The gauge arm positions the stylus tip at the correct height without requiring removal of the platter mat. Less expensive gauges often measure stylus tip force at distances between 6 mm and 10 mm, which can introduce measurement errors. To minimize magnetic interference with moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges, the gauge body is constructed from durable plastic, and the detachable cantilevered extension arm is made from non-ferromagnetic stainless steel. Two calibration masses (5 g and 20 g) are included for recalibration (a one-minute procedure). With larger calibration masses (not supplied), the gauge can be recalibrated for use up to 100 g. A polymer pad on the measuring platform protects the stylus tip and enables precise centering. The LED display (green) is bright and easy to read. A detailed instruction manual is included.
